A question asked�and answered�

�You are so beautiful,� he whispered and looked surprised for saying it aloud.

�You have no right to say such a thing,� she said in a strangled small voice.

He knelt beside her. �Don�t I?�

She scrambled to a more respectable sitting position and hurried to cover her ankles that had been revealed to his view. �Evan,� she sighed, suddenly weary of him. �What do you want from me?�

�I do not know,� he said. She knew that he spoke the truth. His eyes took on a troubled look as he reached out and caressed her cheek with the palm of his hand. The gentleness of his touch took her breath away and left her feeling weak and wanting.

�Perhaps this.�

He leaned toward her. His lips touched hers only briefly and then he pulled back as if reconsidering his actions.

But she forged ahead�
