The Indifferent Earl
Blair Bancroft
Excerpt
A moment of seclusion…
Jared laid the tips of his fingers under her chin, gently
raised her face to his. His heart clenched, for her eyes
brimmed with tears. He longed to declare himself. To
say, “Stay with me, Abby. Marry me, bear my children,” but
the timing was impossibly wrong. Jonathan Blaisdell, long
years dead, loomed between them as solid as the granite on
which they were sitting.
When planning this drive, Jared had thought to snatch a
kiss. Truthfully…a bit more than a kiss. Not that he had
intended a seduction in this sheltered glen, but surely he
could not be faulted for dreaming of something more than a
few short seconds of a chaste embrace. Could he? After all,
his Abby was no longer the young girl Blaisdell had known.
She was a woman will all a woman could offer. All a woman
could want. Somehow, some way she would be his. Yet for the
moment he must hold his piece.
Only for a moment…
