The Diabolical Baron
Mary Jo Putney
An exciting debut...fresh and memorable--Romantic Times
Dear Reader:
The Diabolical Baron was my very first book. Much as
I loved reading, I never dreamed that I could write--until
I bought a computer. Three months later I sold this story,
and I've never looked back. Now, a dozen years later, it's
a pleasure to see this traditional Regency available once
more, especially for all of you who have been unable to
find it.
The Diabolical Baron is the tale of a shy young
girl named Caroline Hanscombe who dreams of music, not men,
and of Jason Kincaid, a jaded lord who has to marry
someone, and draws Caroline's name from a number of slips
that a friend throws into a nut bowl. While her parents are
delighted to accept his offer, Caroline finds her new
fiance alarming, and Jason soon realizes that he should
have been a bit more sober when he decided to choose a
bride--particularly when he meets up again with his first
love.
But never fear. The main characters all leave London for
the country, my subversive streak surfaces, and love
conquers all, though perhaps not in the way you might
expect!
Much to my surprise, the villain of The Diabolical
Baron, Reggie Davenport, became so intriguing that he
went on to better things as the hero of The Rake,
one of the most popular stories I've ever written. Writing
is such a magical business!
As a special extra, this edition of The Diabolical
Baron contains an excerpt from The Bargain.
Rewritten and expand3ed from another early regency, The
Would-Be Widow, The Bargain will be an October
release from Signet.
I hope you enjoy this story as much as I've enjoyed
revisiting old friends!
Happy Reading!
