Geraldine Burrows was born and raised in the Shenandoah
Valley of Virginia and spent her earliest years living on
the campus of a school for the deaf and blind, where her
parents were teachers. Since completing her education, she
has worked as a journalist, a community organizer, and a
staff member of a legal aid office. She now lives in a
seaport village in Rhode Island. She spends her non-
